Shirley Slate

KERNERSVILLE – On May 3, 2019 at 11:40 p.m., surrounded by her loving family, Shirley Scott Slate, 66, peacefully went home to be with our Lord and Savior. She was born on July 25, 1952 in Greensboro, NC to the late Waldo and Polly Scott. She was a 1971 graduate of Northwest High School and was the middle of four children. Shirley devoted her life to her family. She taught them all the importance of family and to love the Lord.

Surviving are her loving husband of 46 years, Doug Slate; three daughters, Shannon Compton (Eric), Kim Myers (Burt), and Tammi Woodall; eight grandchildren, Rebecca, Ashlee (Joey), Eric, Cole, Jade, Lauren, Slate, and McKinleigh; and one great grandchild, Jaxson. Shirley is also survived by two sisters, Linda Mills (Mike), and Debbie Knight (Tommy); one brother, Adam Scott (Angie) and many nieces, nephews and friends whom she cherished.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Rob Decker officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Colfax. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 6, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, 2425 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28203. Because of  generous donors, Shirley was able to receive many units of blood during her stay in the hospital.
