Shirley Grandy Shutt

Mrs. Shirley Grandy Shutt, 86, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born February 13, 1927 in Massachusetts to Harold and Beulah Hale Grandy. Mrs. Shutt helped organize and then led the Jonestown Senior Citizens Club for many years. She enjoyed many activities in her church including singing in the choir, visiting friends and members, making treats for the Children's Day School, and helping with Scouts. She started the Jonestown Quilters Club which met in the basement of her home. The club won many awards over the years and donated proceeds from their quilts to church projects and other charities. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Fred, and a sister-in-law, Betty Grandy. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Richard Shutt, Sr.; two sons, Gene Shutt (Dorothy) of Ellerbe, and Bob Shutt (Debra) of Burlington; one daughter, Sandra Jackson of Yanceyville; seven grandchildren, Ben (Heather) and Forrest Shutt (Jessica Young), Andy (Erin) Shutt and Kathryn (Greg) Getsinger, Dennis Jackson Jr., Steven and Robyn Jackson; eight great grandchildren, Tanner, Carson, Jordan, Caleb, Hayden, Logan, Reece, and Markel; one brother, David Grandy; and many special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 24 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, February 23 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
