Ms. Shirley Gentry Melvin passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Shirley was born and educated in the Winston-Salem schools and UNCG in Greensboro where she spent her life. She was retired from Lucent Technologies where she was employed for 37 plus years. She was a cheerleader and majorette at James A. Gray High School and was in the Masque & Gavel Club as well as the National Honor Society. She was also very active in the Pioneers Club at Lucent and would organize a Spring and Fall trip to Butner to entertain the Forsyth County Unit with a Christmas party and Spring cookout. She was also very active in her church in the choir, Sunday School class, and Fellowship Group. She was always helping others and really never met a stranger. She was a delight to all that knew her. To know her was to love her. You absolutely could not be sad in Shirley’s presence. She will be missed by her nieces and their children.
Shirley is survived by her nieces, Kimberly Brown and Robin Motsinger; great nieces, Megan Brown and Zoe Wood; great nephews, Logan Brown and Zachary Motsinger; and special friends, Nancy Branch and Marie Echols.
A private family service is planned.
