WINSTON-SALEM-Mrs. Shirley Burberry Land, 78, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on February 1, 1935 in Wales, United Kingdom to Harry and Mona Burberry. She moved to the United States in 1955. Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church of Winston-Salem. She never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. Shirley was generous and always tried to give back to the less fortunate. She had a special place in her heart for all animals. Shirley was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves and Wake Forest University. Preceding Mrs. Land in death were her parents and a brother, Harvey Burberry and his wife, Mary. Mrs. Land is survived by her husband, Jack Land of the home; one son, David Land and wife Debbie of Arcadia, NC; two grandsons, Kevan Land and wife Cinda of Randleman, NC and Scott James and wife Summer of Midway, NC; three great-grandchildren, Taylor James, Hunter James, and Noah Fain; two brothers, Alwyn Burberry and wife Rhiain of Wales, UK and Graham Burberry and wife Linda of Wales, UK; one sister, Linda Harris and husband Chris of England; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members both here in the United States and in the United Kingdom; and a special family member, Faye Walser, who is her son's mother-in-law but felt more like a sister to her throughout the years. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at First Baptist Church with Dr. David Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
