Mrs. Shirley Ann Leagans Hughes, 84, of Winston-Salem, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, January 6, 2023, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Shirley was born in Pfafftown, NC on March 16, 1938, to the late Sidney Marion Leagans and Emma Grey Whitman Leagans. She loved her Lord and was a faithful member of Northwoods Baptist Church. She also enjoyed music and her favorite singer was Daniel O’Donald, especially his song, “Footsteps Walking with Me.” Shirley enjoyed going on day trips and shopping, especially at Cato’s and Marshalls. She loved to cook delicious meals for her family and friends, especially her famous meatloaf. She enjoyed collecting cookbooks from various churches and would sit for hours reading all the recipes. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Alfred Hughes, Sr; daughter, Tammy Lynn Kiser; and one great grandchild, Easton Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Stuckey; son, Fred Alfred Hughes, Jr. (Melinda); grandchildren, Tommy Smith, David Smith, Jason Smith, and Angela Minor; great grandchildren, Avery Smith, Noah Smith, Gavyn Smith, Emily Smith, Reagan Smith, Phoenix Smith, and Nevaeh Minor; and brothers, Sidney Leagans and Larry Leagans. A service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Northwoods Baptist Church with Brother Jim Thompson, Pastor Frank Shumate, and Pastor Eric Goff officiating. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mrs. Hughes.
