STAUNTON, VA---Mr. Shirley D. Davis, 93, formerly of Winston-Salem, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Envoy Health Care in Staunton, Virginia after a prolonged illness. Shirley was born in Winston-Salem on May 8, 1918 to Mittie Wiesner Davis and Verd Reginald Davis. He attended James A. Gray High School and served in the Army during WWII in France and Belgium as a tank radio operator. Upon his return, he joined his father and his brother, Basil R. Davis, in the family business, V.R. Davis & Sons Electric, where he worked until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Moravian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia S. Davis, and later his wife, Doris T. Davis; his brothers, Worth, Leon, and Basil Davis, as well as his sister, Nancy Jackson. He is survived by his son Ed and his wife, Dianne of West Augusta, VA; three grandchildren, Brooke Davis and her husband Nick Martina of Richmond, VA, Donna Smith and her husband, Bill of Greenville, SC and Shane Marano and his wife Michele of Richmond, VA; six great-grandchildren, Alex Kossan, Andrew Kossan, Amber Smith, Kevin Smith, Devin Burkett and Hunter Marano. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A funeral service will be conducted by the Reverend John Jackman of Trinity Moravian Church in the Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 3, 2012 followed by interment in God's Acre at Old Salem.
