Shirley Nicks Cleary

Mrs. Shirley Laura Nicks Cleary of Winston-Salem, beloved mother, grandmother and caretaker to all her family, went to be with Travis, her late husband of 47 years Friday, Sept. 4, 2009. She was born January 24, 1935, in Yadkin County to the late James and Mildred Nicks. She graduated from West Yadkinville High School. She worked for P.H. Hanes. She was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church for 49 years. She was preceded in death by a brother, Earnest Nicks and three nieces. Surviving to cherish the memories are two daughters, Jewel C. Graves and husband Dana, and the pride of her life, grandson Travis Graves, and daughter, Kim Cleary and special friend Tod Veach, and son Kevin; two step grandchildren, Brandon Graves and wife Alissa, and Shannon G. Hamilton and husband Jeff; Odell Cleary and wife Nancy of Stanleyville; Dwight Tuttle and wife Rita of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Minister Doug Hochmuth and Rev. Ken Eller officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to her many loving and supporting friends and staff of Hospice.
