BYRD Mrs. Shirley Felker Craven Byrd, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born on June 1, 1928 to the late William and Louise Felker in Waterford, CT. Mrs. Byrd was retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, where she dearly loved working with kindergarten children. She was a member of Waughtown Baptist Church, and was also a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Kernersville 205. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Chase and Virginia Felker; and a brother, Bill Felker. Surviving are her husband, Richard Gray Byrd of the home; two sons, Greg Craven, Jeff Craven and wife Kathy; four grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Craven, Tiffany Craven Smith and husband Clayton, Amanda Byrd Everhart and husband David; two great grandchildren, Clay Smith and Lillie Everhart. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Van Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home 101 Hospice lane Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
