Shirley Blakemore

Shirley Logan Blackmore, 90, passed form this life to eternal life on July 27, 2022, at her home.

The only child of Margret Bradshaw and John Logan, Shirley moved to Winston-Salem, NC, at age 6 and lived there her entire life.

Shirley fell in love with Korean War Veteran, Jerry Blackmore, and settled down in Winston-Salem where they raised their 2 sons, John and Robert.

After graduating from James Gray High School, she spent most of her working life working as a Registered Clinical Pathologist for the Bowman Gray Center of Medical Education.

Jerry and Shirley were active members of Calvary Moravian Church. In retirement, they served on the Disaster Response Team of the American Red Cross. Their greatest challenge was serving food to the rescue workers after 9/11 when they led the kitchen team for over 6 weeks at ground zero.

Shirley’s brilliant mind, delightful sense of humor, and endless optimism will be dearly missed by her sons, John Lee and Robert Alan; as well as her daughter-in-law, Diane; and her grandchildren, Daniel, Steph, and Melissa.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Shirley’s pastors, Lane Sapp and Dallas Prestwood, who lovingly cared for both Shirley and Jerry throughout their lives.

A private family service will be held for Shirley on Thursday, August 4, 2022, with Bishop Lane Sapp officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Moravian Church, 600 Holly Ave NW, Winston-Salem, NC 27101, or to the American Red Cross, https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation.html/.
