Sherry Russ

Sherry Ann Russ, 59, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center. Sherry was born on January 7, 1962 in Forsyth County. She was the daughter of Charlie Lee Russ and Sadie Reavis Callahan and the stepdaughter of Grady Callahan. Sherry’s favorite things were swimming, playing cards, fishing and the beach. She was an avid fan of Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils. She made many trips to the Duke campus to visit with Coach K and attend basketball games as his guest. Sherry attended The Children’s Center, South Park High School and The Enrichment Center in her early years. She was attending the Day Program with Friendly People That Care and living in a group home with her “family” of caregivers that made her days very happy. She always had a smile for all that she met and made many friends. In addition to her parents and stepfather, Sherry was preceded in death by her aunt, Peggy Brendle; and stepsister, Sheila Thacker. Surviving family includes her sister, Terri Russ Petty; nephew, Matthew Kiger; niece, Summer Petty; great-niece, Lily Hunt; stepbrother, David Callahan; and aunts, uncles and other family. The family would like to thank Peggy and Dallas Brendle and Bill and Deborah Callahan for their care of Sherry. Also, thank you to the many caregivers that cared for Sherry after the loss of her mother and stepfather. There are too many to name individually, but they cared for Sherry as “family” when her family could not. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, with Chaplain Patricia Greene officiating. No formal visitation will be held due to COVID restrictions. Donations may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Ln, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to a favorite charity of your choice. The only thing Sherry would want is for everyone to be safe, happy and smile with your eyes… the way she always did. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
