Mr. Sherrill Bryant Haynes, 81, of Winston-Salem passed into glory by God's abundant grace in Christ on Thursday, April 09, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home surrounded by his family. Mr. Haynes was born in Wilkes County to the late Isaac Newton and Fannie Miller Haynes on September 6, 1927. He served in the United States Army and retired after 35 years from the Winston-Salem Fire Department, where he was fondly known as ""Blue Boy"". Mr. Haynes was named Fireman of the Year in 1969. His fire fighting career was followed by many years of service for Gant Oil. He enjoyed spending time with his family, beach trips, gardening, Catawba College tailgates, and attending the Dixie Classic Fair. Mr. Haynes was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Renee Hise, four brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by a special friend Ann Kiger of Winston-Salem, two daughters Carolyn Talbert of Winston-Salem and Rene Hutchins of Kernersville; two sons Vernon Haynes (Valerie Davis) of Fort Mill, SC and Bob Haynes (Dottie) of Raleigh; six grandsons, three granddaughters, four great grandchildren; a sister, and a special companion, his dog Lady. A memorial service will be conducted 4:00pm Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
