Mrs. Shelby Jean Settle Hege Ellis died Wednesday, May 25, 2016 in her home with her loving husband who served as her constant caregiver for the last two years while she battled melanoma. Shelby was born to the late Frances Lawson and Bynum Settle on March 30, 1937. She was preceded in death by three of her five siblings: Nina Dimmette, Nancy Foltz, and Gary Settle and two step-children, Darlene Ellis and Kevin Ellis. Mrs. Ellis worked as the Assistant Clerk of Superior Court in Davidson County for 11 years. Shelby is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Sherrill James Ellis, four children: Sharon Breitenstein (Steve), Tim Hege (Patricia), Susan Frazier, and Sheila Templeton (Noal), and two step- children: Curtis Ellis and Jeff Ellis (Cindy). She loved her 10 grandchildren: Amy Harrington (Brian), Seth Breitenstein (Tracy), Eric Breitenstein (Reagan), Sumer Thrift (Steve), Ally Boyette (Kent), Cameron Curry, Nova Hege, Josh Frazier (Chrissy), Brad Frazier (Annie Branstetter) and Holly Templeton, her 6 step-grandchildren and her 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Hendrix and her brother Jim Settle (Pam). She will also be dearly missed by her ""September Beach Buddies."" Shelby was known for her great Southern meals; especially her chicken and dumplings, pot roast and potato salad. She had a great sense of humor, was a fashionista, enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, and loved the beach. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church located at 1082 Community Road, Lexington, NC. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to Hospice or Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in memory of Shelby Ellis.
