Shannon Lally Hanington, 60, of Advance, NC, wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, November 4, 2022. She leaves behind an unmatched legacy of care and devotion.
She was born on August 3, 1962, to parents Ken and Judy Lally, in Louisville, KY. She married her high school sweetheart, Ernest Hanington, on January 2, 1982. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary earlier this year. Shannon was the much-loved mother of Michael (Michelle) Hanington and Darien (Ben V) Mogni. She was a cherished “Nonna” to Brody Hanington, Parker Hanington, and Benjamin “B6” James Mogni VI.
Her family and friends were the most important aspects of her life; however, she also built a very successful career spending the last 14 years at Inmar Intelligence in corporate communications. With her tremendous talent as a writer, she was able to help many people achieve their career goals, such as getting into college, medical, law, and business schools.
In addition to her husband, children, grandchildren, and father, Shannon leaves behind the following family: siblings, Sean (Kim) Lally, Michael Lally, and Brent (Wendy) Lally, with whom she was like a second mother; father-in-law, George Hanington; husbands’ siblings, Louene (Kenny) Fitzpatrick, Kevin Hanington and Heather (Scott) Shepherd; several nieces and nephews, who lovingly called her “Aunt Shan”; and her “Desperate Housewives”, a strong network of best friends from the past 15+ years.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Judy Lally; her mother-in-law, Delores Hanington; and her aunt, Carol Lally.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4820 Kinnamon Rd., Clemmons, NC 27012. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, 108 E. Kinderton Way, Advance, NC 27006.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made in her honor to Cancer Services of Winston-Salem, 3175 Maplewood Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
