Selwyn Ann Miller Burns

Mrs. Selwyn Ann Miller Burns, 72, daughter, wife, sister, and nurse, formerly of Winston-Salem, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2015, at Wilmington Health and Rehab. She was born on September 4, 1943 in Fort Bragg, NC to Ralph Kiah and Dorothy Groom Miller. She was a retired Nursing and House Supervisor from Forsyth Memorial Hospital, after 41 years of service. Touched and saved many lives and gave to people from her heart. She received her BS degree in Nursing at WSSU. After retiring, Selwyn moved to N. Topsail Beach, NC. She became bored (imagine that), and put her scrubs back on, volunteering at New Hanover Hospital. Selwyn's brother Doug, became ill and she took care of him along with John Miller until his death. It was in her heart and soul to care for people. She was loved and will be missed by all. In addition to her parents, Selwyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Shelton ""J.S."" Burns and one brother, Ralph Douglas Miller. She is survived by two brothers, David F. Miller and wife Rhonda of Albany, GA, and John A. Miller of Jacksonville, NC; two grandchildren, Tracy Davis and husband Brandon of Winston-Salem and Adam Crenshaw of Clarksville, Tenn.; two great grandchildren, Agree Davis and Nash Crenshaw; one step daughter, Karen Burns of Tennessee; and two nephews Joshua and Jacob Miller of Georgia. A funeral service for Selwyn will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 20, 2015, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Chaplain Randy Hillman officiating. Interment will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
