WINSTON-SALEM - Selma Hudson Cooke Ferguson, 91, died September 17, 2010 at The Lutheran Home in Winston-Salem of natural causes. Mrs. Ferguson was born February 17, 1919 in Elkin, NC to the late Jim & Mary Hudson. Mrs. Ferguson was the last survivor of nine children of the Hudson's. She made her home in Winston-Salem where she enjoyed her life, raising her family of four children on Motor Road during the 40's, 50's and 60's. She was a dedicated mother that loved her children and took them traveling every chance she could. She loved music and dancing. She was a loving and giving soul who took care of the sick and needy in her own family during their later years. Selma will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who knew her or ever looked into her beautiful blue eyes. Mrs. Ferguson was preceded in death by her first husband, Everette Lee Cooke, Jr.; her second husband, Vestal Lee Ferguson and two grandsons, Tim Miller & Brian Cooke. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Miller of Pasadena, TX, and Jean Blake (Ray) of Kernersville; sons, Everette ""Buddy"" Cooke (Sandra) of Kernersville and Dale (Cynthia) Cooke of Apex; six grandchildren, Dana, Kim, Mark, Christa, Andrianna & Brandon; four great grandchildren, Ashley, Dustin, Davana & Hayden; and one great great grandchild, Caleb. The family would like to express their gratitude for the special love and care of their Mom (Nannie) to the staff at the Lutheran Home and a very special thank you to Tawana ""Beaver"". A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 20, 2010 at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel in Kernersville with Rev. Charles Carver officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Mausoleum Chapel. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Ferguson Family.
