Sara "Ruth" Mathis

Mrs. Sara “Ruth” Mathis, 93, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022. She was born in Wilkes County on February 6, 1929 to Crom and Ennice Johnson. Ruth was a member of Union Ridge United Methodist Church. She retired from Western Electric. Ruth liked having a garden and planting flowers. She enjoyed going fishing with her brother, Alvin, at the beach. Ruth liked to watch the wildlife such as squirrels, deer, and hawks. Everyone who had the privilege to know her, will miss her very much. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Jarvis Mathis and four brothers. She is survived by her son, Mike Mathis (Cathy); a grandson, Cody Mathis; and siblings, Dorothy Coffey and Cline Johnson of Wilkes County. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Union Ridge United Methodist Church cemetery with Rev. Angie Toth officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church cemetery.
