Sarah Lou "Rita" Toivonen

Mrs. Sarah Lou “Rita” Toivonen, 83, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021. She was born in Surry County on February 26, 1938 to Willie Caudle and Alice Wall Caudle. Rita graduated from the University of North Carolina with a B.A. and from the University of Michigan with a master’s degree in library science. She was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church and she enjoyed singing in their choir. Rita spent a lot of her time reading books and she always liked attending classical music concerts. Most importantly, she was a devoted mother. In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by a brother, Dickie Caudle. Surviving are her husband, Dennis Toivonen; children, John William Toivonen and Tanya Morresett; grandchildren, Amy Morresett and John Morresett; and sisters, Kay Mansfield and Sybrilla Caudle.
