Sarah “Carlene” Petree, 72, of Winston-Salem, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 2, 2021. She was born March 1, 1949 in Winston-Salem to the late Dorothy Correll Petree and Carl Lee Petree. She attended Methodist College in Fayetteville, NC and had practical nurse training. She spent several years in beautiful Salt Lake City working in hospitals. Carlene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and her church and faith were central to her life. During her working career, being a nanny was her favorite position. She loved children and they loved and related to her. Carlene was a gifted poet. She inspired all who read her poems knowing how much adversity she faced with grace and an uncomplaining sense of humor. Her silly jokes could brighten the dreariest day. Carlene was wonderfully generous sharing her poems, handmade baskets, and most importantly, her time and love with family and friends. Her compassion for others will long be remembered. Surviving Carlene are four sisters, Linda Petree Seiwell and husband Richard, Jane E. Petree, Kathy Petree, Cris Petree Charlier and husband Robert; one brother, Clinton L. Petree; and four nieces and nephews. The family is forever grateful to Carlene’s caregiver Marta Garcia and her extended family for all the love and care given to Carlene. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Forsyth Memorial Park, with Bishop Greg Scott officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
