Mrs. Sarah Virginia Walker Owen, of Rural Hall, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born April 9, 1925 in Stokes County to the late Robert Lee Walker and Susan Ann Bowman Walker. Mrs. Owen was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a cadet nurse during WWII and later became the first charter nurse hired at Salemtowne.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Owen was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Jack Thomas Owen and her sister, Lois Marie Walker Davis. Surviving are her two sons, Steve Owen and his wife, Carol of Kannapolis and J. T. ""Tim"" Owen and his wife, Malinda of Rural Hall; five grandchildren: Angie, Rebecca, Debbie, Jeff, and David; ten great-grandchildren: Clay, Jacob, Lanie, Haley, Larkin, Ethan, Pressley, Jack, Matthew, and Julie; one brother, Bobby Walker; numerous nieces and nephews; and also special friends, Hassell and Dot Caudle.
A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Rural Hall Memorial Park with the Rev. David Wood officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, October 15 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
