Sarah Hall

Mrs. Sarah Louise Howard Hall, 88, of Winston-Salem, peacefully went to meet her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 7, 2018. She was born in Forsyth County on April 2, 1930, to the late Ray Charles Howard and Evelyn Foster Howard.

She was deeply loved by her family and was actively involved in all their lives.  Sarah had a beautiful servant’s heart, from serving in Girl Scouts in her youth to being a Cub Scout Den Mother and member of the PTA in adulthood, but her primary passion was her church. She was a lifelong member of Clemmons First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and participated on many committees. Her Sunday school class, Dorcas, was her favorite church activity and she truly missed it when poor health in later years kept her from attending. She was an active person most all her life, from lettering in high school basketball to playing tennis for many years. It was on a tennis court where her true love and future husband

would first spy her. Once her children were attending school she worked at the Winston-Salem Journal, formerly the Journal and Sentinel, for years in the classified advertising where she had many fiercely loyal customers. Retirement didn’t slow her down either. She then joined the Snappy Tappers, a senior tap-dancing troupe that performed in many venues throughout the state for a number of years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Sarah Catherine “Cathy” Hall Elworth, and a sister, Linda Howard Minor. She leaves her husband of 67 years, Jim Hall. A son, Lee Hall of Charlotte, NC and wife Nancy. Four grandchildren, Chrystal Hopley, Seth Elworth, Sarah Hall, and Samuel Hall and three great-grandchildren, Bryson Pegram, Ethan Wareing, and Raylan Church. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Sandra Peterson.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, October 13 at noon, at Clemmons First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Scott Hammett. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Friday, October 12, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Clemmons First Baptist Church, 3530 Clemmons Road, Clemmons, NC 27012.
