Mrs. Sarah Ann Thomas Coppedge, 91, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at her home. 

Mrs. Coppedge was born on June 1, 1933, in Gaston County to the late Lester Thomas and Mae Thomas Lykins. 

She was a graduate of Mars Hill Junior College where she earned an associate’s degree in 1952 and graduated cum laude from Wake Forest College where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 1954. Mrs. Coppedge taught English at Smithfield High School in Smithfield, NC and at R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem. Sarah was a member of Wake Forest Baptist Church. She was active in the neighborhood, school, and church activities over the years; however, her greatest fulfillment came from her devotion to her husband and her children and their home. 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Coppedge was preceded in passing by her husband, Tom D. Coppedge Jr.; and sister, Pat Turner. 

She is survived by three daughters, Debbie Bremer (Ron) of Raleigh, NC, Cindy Smith (Chris) of Kernersville, NC, and Amy Dixon (Erik) of Raleigh, NC; one son, Tom Coppedge III (Kimberly) of Raleigh, NC; seven grandchildren, Jenny Garcia, Drew Bremer, Lesli Moss, Hannah Wuttke, Justin Dixon, Kaitlyn Strickland, and Tom Coppedge IV; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Moore of Hendersonville, NC and Linda Sigmon (Mack) of Newton, NC; one brother, Jack Thomas of Winston-Salem, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

There will be a private family service in accordance with Sarah’s wishes. 

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Wake Forest Baptist Church, 118 E. South Avenue, Wake Forest, NC. 

Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.
