Sara Ellen Bason Braswell, 94, passed away Friday, August 5, 2022, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem after a lengthy illness. Sara was born May 20, 1928, in Greensboro, NC, to Samuel Ralph Bason and Nell Faires Bason.
She was a 1946 graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School and a 1948 graduate of Brevard College. She spent her early childhood in Greensboro, later moving with her family to Winston-Salem. She married Roy Benton Braswell on January 27, 1951, at Ardmore United Methodist Church. She was a member of Clemmons United Methodist Church since 1973. Her lifelong focus was on her family and friends and serving them in many loving and giving ways. She loved to write letters and send cards to reach out to those dear to her to encourage them and stay connected. One of the ministries she did for many years at Clemmons UMC was to send cards to church members following a surgery, a loss, or an illness – a ministry which was another extension of her thoughtfulness to others.
Sara loved dancing, travel, fall season activities, Christmas and celebrating the birthdays and other milestones of her family. She and Roy traveled to Italy, Greece, Israel and France, as well as numerous US states and Canada. For more than 30 years, she traveled to the NC mountains each fall with her daughters and granddaughter for their annual girls’ trip.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years who died in 2016, her parents and her sister, Betty Bason Hill.
Surviving are daughter, Patricia Lynn Braswell; daughter Julie Ann Braswell Connell and her husband Michael Connell, of Kernersville, NC; and granddaughter Jordyn Morales and her husband Chase Morales of Coral Gables, Florida. Jordyn was her Nina’s beloved granddaughter of whom she was very proud. She is also survived by cherished nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 1:00-2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem, NC.
