Sara Marie Pate Chambers, 84, passed away on Sunday, April 1, surrounded by family at home. She was born in Robeson County, NC, raised in Rowland, NC, and graduated from Salem College in 1956. She married Dr. Robert T. Chambers in 1956 and lived in Durham, Thomasville, and then Winston-Salem. She was an active member of her Circle group and a volunteer at church, and a founding member at Arbor Acres, where she volunteered for over 1000 hours in its first few years of operation. She loved working in her garden, a lifetime member of the Town and Country Garden Club, and loved caring for and playing with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, George Lewis and Ruth Reed Pate, she was preceded in death by her husband, her son George Martin, and her brother George Reed Pate. She is survived by her children Dena Ruth Chambers (Stanley) of Hurdle Mills, and John Robert Chambers of Lewisville; five grandchildren, Eric Daniel (38) and Sara Rose Stanley (37), and Ariana Marie (21), Kayley Pate (17) and Laila Tyler Chambers (13); daughter-in-law, Nan Tyler Chambers, several nieces, a nephew and extended family. A memorial service is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center (www.hospicecarecenter.org).
