Sara Aycock Bruce

Sara Aycock Bruce, age 84 of Winston-Salem, passed away on September 25, 2015. She was born November 30, 1930 to the late Joseph and Eunice Williams Aycock in Hickory, Mississippi. She met and married Richard H. Bruce (Dick) in 1953 while he was stationed in the Coast Guard at Mobile, Alabama. After receiving his degree from the University of Alabama, they traveled with his work to Wisconsin, Tennessee, Ohio (twice), and New Jersey. Then they settled in Hickory North Carolina for nine years before living in Charlotte and lastly Lewisville to be closer to their daughter Mindy. Sara was a true Christian and was very active in her churches - First Methodist Church, Hickory; Sharon Methodist, Charlotte; and Sharon Methodist, Lewisville. She was an active Girl Scout Leader, Sunday school teacher, hospital volunteer and enjoyed many hobbies particularly knitting and painting. Sara also participated in the NC Hunter Jumper Association, as she and Dick also loved showing horses with their daughter Beth. Sara's love and appreciation for family and friends were the delight and passion of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Dick and daughter Beth Bruce Stiles. She is survived by her daughter Mindy (David) and her grandsons Adam (Parks) and Eric. Her brother Marion Aycock survives her in Battle Creek Michigan. She also leaves behind numerous loving nieces and nephews. Sara's life will be celebrated on Saturday, October 10 at 11:00 AM at Sharon UMC, 5330 Sharon Church Road, Lewisville, NC. Friends and family are invited to visit immediately after in the commons area of the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Sharon UMC, 5330 Sharon Church Road, Lewisville, NC 27023. A special thank you to the staff at Trinity Elms for the loving care provided to Sara during her recent stay. She was cared for with honor and respect.
