Sandra Mae Phillips Pollard was born on June 1, 1950 in Greenville, SC to Virgil and Helen Phillips who preceded her in death. She went to be with the Lord on August 19, 2017 in Winston-Salem, NC. Sandra was a graduate of Parker High School and of Mars Hill College with a BA degree in English and a teaching certificate. She married the love of her life, James Pollard, on May 23, 1971. Her two children, a son Chris Pollard and a daughter Jaime Pollard-Smith, were the joy of her life along with their spouses Tish Pollard and Brent Smith. She considered being a wife and mother as her two greatest roles. The four grandchildren held a special place in her life: Sloane and Quinn Belue and Jude and Lila Smith. Sandra served as a missionary to Chile with the International Mission Board where she had a puppet ministry for children. Her team traveled around the region sharing the message of God's love and hope. As a teacher, Sandra taught English and sometimes Spanish at schools across North and South Carolina. She also served as the ESL Coordinator for Alleghany County Schools and Perquimans County Schools. Sandra ministered as the Hispanic Coordinator for the Pilot Mountain Baptist Association. She worked tirelessly as a pastor's wife doing ministry through various churches where she was a member. Sandra had a special love of the Women's Missionary Union. Her artistic talents could be seen in the wreaths, flower arrangements and puppets she created. Sandra was perhaps best known for her faith in God and as a person of prayer.
A celebration of life service will be held at Ardmore Baptist Church on September 9, 2017 at 1:30 pm with Dr. Don Gordon officiating. The service will include a time for those present to share a brief memory of Sandra. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice of Forsyth County or the Tab Williams Senior Adult Daycare.
