Sandra Perkins

Sandra Marlene Blackwell Perkins entered into the eternal presence of Jesus Christ, her Savior and Lord, on Saturday, December 4, 2021.

Born to William Warren and Mary Lorene Clodfelter Blackwell on February 10, 1951, Sandra spent most of her life in Winston-Salem, attending local schools until her graduation from Parkland High School in 1969. She continued her education, earning an A.A. in history from Albany Junior College (GA), a B.A. in English from High Point University, and an M.Ed. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was dedicated to Christian education, investing thirty-one years to teaching and mentoring students, training secondary English interns, and providing workshops for English instruction. After nineteen years of service, she retired in 2017 from Piedmont International University, where she had been an English instructor and coordinator of the English Education program for secondary teachers.

Sandra committed her life to cultivating a strong relationship with Jesus Christ, serving Him at Grace Baptist Church of Winston-Salem for the past twenty-three years. She also enjoyed a loving and committed relationship for fifty-one years with her husband Steve. Together they nurtured three wonderful children: Christopher, Bethany, and Aaron. She adored being “Maw-Maw” to five exceptional grandchildren: Kyle, Seth, Cooper, Ramsey, and Harrison.

Preceded in death by her parents and her brother Keith, Sandra is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren; a special son-in-law, Zeb Sharpe, and a special daughter-in-law, Heather Sears Perkins; a much loved brother: Richard Blackwell (Mary Ann); three very special brother-cousins: Dr. Nick Chrysson, Jeff Chrysson (Paula), and Scott Logan; and a host of very dear and supportive extended family members and friends.

A service to commemorate Sandra’s life and Christian faith will be conducted at Grace Baptist Church 3305 Peters Creek Parkway on Saturday, December 11, 2021. The family will receive guests from 12 – 12:45 pm and the service will begin at 1:00 pm.  Pastors Cletis Titus, Jim Bush, and Josh Harvey will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church.
