Mr. Samuel “Sam” Ray Kimmer, 71, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023, at his home. He was born on January 29, 1952, to the late Fred G. Kimmer Sr. and Mary Owings Kimmer in Hanestown, NC. Sam gave his heart and soul to the Lord in October 1962. Sam was among the first men to work on the bus ministry of Hanes Baptist Church during the early 1970’s. Sam was a graduate of West Forsyth High School class of 1970. He also graduated from Forsyth Tech after completing the machinist course. He also graduated with a two-year degree in the computer science course. Sam enjoyed watching (an avid Green Bay Packer Fan) and playing many sports, including baseball, tennis, and horseshoe pitching. Sam was a ‘Paperboy” in Hanestown, delivering the Winston-Salem Journal and Sentinel seven days a week twice a day. Sam was part of the “Cotton Mill Village” of Hanestown in the 1950’s and 1960’s. A time when every kids parents worked at the P.H. Hanes Knitting Company. It was a way of life that will never be repeated. A time in which there was never a dull moment. Sam following Benny Hayes around the village looking for yards to mow, at $1.00 per yard! Those were the days! Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Fred G. Kimmer Sr. and Mary Owings Kimmer; sister Glenda Kimmer Laird and husband Tommy Laird. He is survived by three brothers, Fred G. Kimmer Jr., and wife Jean, Calvin L. Kimmer and wife Carolyn all of Winston-Salem, NC, and Roger D. Kimmer of Dallas, Texas. A graveside service will be held at Forsyth Memorial Park on Monday November 6, 2023, at 1pm with Reverend RJ McBride officiating.
