Samuel (Sammy) Deane Fisher March 23, 1979-April 23, 2015
On April 23, 2015, Samuel (Sammy) Deane Fisher entered the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Roanoke, Virginia on March 23, 1979, he was the firstborn child of Jeff and Lindy Fisher. Additionally, ""Little Sam"", as he was affectionately referred to, was the firstborn grandson of Al and Joanne Bean and Everette and Margie Fisher.
As an infant, Sammy was a ""people"" person. His infectious smile and joyous personality won the hearts of even strangers. This was a trait that existed throughout his lifetime. He demonstrated the Holy Spirit given gift of friendliness and encouragement in the lives of the people he touched.
During his high school years at Union Grove Christian School, Sammy was a champion chess player, an excellent basketball team-player and a devoted UNC Tarheels fan. Academically, he was gifted, requiring little study, when learning advanced mathematics.
After receiving his GED in 1997, Sammy diligently worked at several jobs within the Winston-Salem Community, before deciding to become a self-employed entrepreneur.
Sammy was married to Lindsay Marie Fisher from 2005-2013.
His interests in the latter years of his life included exploring the outdoors, hiking with his friends, playing and winning regional poker tournaments, even qualifying nationally.
While these were enjoyable recreational activities, Sammy's core value was his faith in the Lord Jesus as his Savior. Sammy was a beloved member of Unity Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. His church family was important to him, as Sammy invited friends to accompany him to worship and openly shared his re-dedication to Christ with many.
The loving relationships Sammy experienced with his parents, grandfather, brother, sisters and friends were an integral part of his daily life. With a servant's heart, he freely gave of himself, especially to his younger brother, Joshua, whom he deeply loved. Sammy will leave a void in the lives of the many people, whom he touched. He will be sorely missed by friends and family.
Sammy is survived by his parents, Lindy and Jeff Fisher of Lexington, NC; two sisters: Hannah Anderson of Winston-Salem, NC and Abby Fisher of Lexington, NC; one brother: Joshua Fisher and his wife, Michelle of Lexington, NC; two nephews: Brandon Peterson and Jeremiah Gaines of Winston-Salem, NC; one niece: Nicole Anderson of Winston-Salem, NC.
Grandparents include: Pastor Albert and Joanne Bean of Fayetteville, NC; the late Everette Fisher, formerly of Roanoke, Virginia and the late Margie Fisher, formerly of Roanoke, Virginia.
He was the nephew of Mike Fisher of Midlothian, Virginia; Betsy Fitzgerald of Fayetteville, NC; Sammy Bean of Winston-Salem, NC; Bill Bean of King, NC; Mary Rogers-Rockey of Fayetteville, NC and Marty Miliziano of Houston, Texas.
Visitation on Saturday, April 25, 2015 will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hayworth Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015 in the Hayworth Miller Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with Pastor Al Bean and Pastor Benny Sprouse officiating and special music provided by Phyllis Spence. Burial to follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons International at www.gideons.org/sendtheword for the spread of the Gospel around the world.
