Samuel "Sammy" Steven Chakona, Sr.

Mr. Samuel Steven ""Sammy"" Chakona, Sr., 69, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born August 29, 1945 in Forsyth County the son of the late Andrew and Opal Chakona. Sammy was of the Baptist faith and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. He enjoyed playing softball, fishing and spending time with his family. Sammy is survived by his wife, Letha Diane Chakona of the home, a daughter; Sherry Michelle Chakona of Winston-Salem, four sons; Samuel Steven Chakona, Jr. (Karen) of Winston-Salem, Timothy Shane Chakona of Winston-Salem, David Sell (Lashonda) of Winston-Salem and Ron Sell of China Grove, 11 grandchildren; Sarah, Emily, T.J., Trevor, Daniel, Dante, Trae, Tyla, Cameron, Kacie and Hannah, and two brothers; Harold Chakona (Claudette) of Winston-Salem and Aubrey Chakona (Joann) of Goldsboro. Funeral services for Sammy will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 this evening June 29, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
