Samuel David Bowen

Mr. Samuel David Bowen, born April 2, 1937, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 31, 2013 after a courageous three year battle with leukemia. He retired from Southern/N&W after forty years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Samuel and Nellie Crater Bowen and his brother, Michael Lee Bowen. Surviving are his loving wife of forty five years, Carolyn Billings Bowen; two daughters, Robin Day and Dee Dee Forrest (Monty) three grandchildren, Kendra Widner (Tony), Casey Forrest, Seth Forrest (Brooke); six great grandsons, Jake, Max and Dru Widner, Cayman Forrest-Pruitt and Keaton and Beckham Forrest; and his loyal friend "" Bobby"", his Jack Russell Terrier. He was a member of Friedberg Moravian Church and the Covenant Sunday School Class. We would like to thank our church family for all their prayers, kind words and cards during the time of David's illness. We would also like to thank Dr. Christopher Thomas and the staff of the Derek Davis Cancer Center and Hospice and Palliative Care of Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem this evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Friedberg Moravian Church with Rev. G. Thomas Shelton and Rev. James C. Newsome, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Friedberg Graveyard, ""The Hill of Peace"". In lieu of flowers donations may be made Friedberg Moravian Church, The Covenant Sunday School Class of Friedberg, 2178 Friedberg Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127 or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 4530 Park Road, Suite 240, Charlotte, NC 28209.
