Mr. Samuel Harrison ""Sam"" Black, Jr., 86, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Black was born August 18, 1923 in Forstyth County to the late Samuel Harrison Black, Sr. and Stella Pope Black. He was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and served in the US Navy during WWII and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, when the Base was attacked. Mr. Black was a retired salesman from Rominger Furniture. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Willard Black and a daughter, Carol Black Haynes. Surviving to cherish his memory are his two sons; Barry Black and wife, Linda, Philip Black and wife, Harriett; five grandchildren; Daniel Haynes, David Haynes and wife, Stephanie, Sheffey Black and wife, Julie, Scarlett Black Winn and husband, Joey, two great grandchildren; David Zane Winn, Claire June Black, a sister, Ruby Proctor, a brother, Carney Black, a son- in- law, Steve Haynes, a loving dear friend, Dot Dickerson and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. The Funeral Service will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, December1, 2009 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Doug Hochmuth and Rev. E. Lee Ellis.Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the Service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
