Mr. Sam Lapish, 81, was called to his Lord and Savior on July 6, 2024 peacefully at his home in Winston-Salem, NC. He was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather.
On Friday, August 2, 2024 at Fraternity Church of the Brethren, visitation with family will be at 2:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life service at 3:00 PM with Rev. David Ansley officiating. Graveside service with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Sam was born February 8, 1943 in Davie County to the late William H. and Emma Tutterow Lapish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Lee Lapish and William “Major” Lapish; and sisters, Stella Sue Lapish, Ruby Schneider, Ila Mae Edwards, Patricia Ann Spivey, and Annie “Peggy” Hayes.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jo Ann Forrest Lapish; his son, Jamie Lapish and wife Shanna; his three grandchildren, Josh, Kaitlyn and Nicole Lapish; his sister, Edna Laird; his many nieces and nephews; and his granddog Daisy.
He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army. He became a member of Fraternity Church of the Brethren in 1972, and he faithfully served in various positions. The friendship of his church family over the years, and especially the love and support that he received during his illness, served as a true source of inspiration to him. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he looked forward to the many occasions when the family could all be together for celebrations and vacations. He enjoyed listening to music and reading his Bible.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fraternity Church of the Brethren, 3760 Fraternity Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
