Sam Irvin Hilton

Mr. Sam Irvin Hilton, 89, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Lutheran Home of Winston-Salem. Mr. Hilton was born in Forsyth County on December 20, 1920 to Joseph E. and Mae Wilson Hilton. He was a member of Pinedale Christian Church and a retiree of R.J. Reynolds with 36 years of service. Mr. Hilton was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater stationed at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack. After retirement he spent much of his time gardening, a pastime he truly enjoyed. Mr. Hilton will be remembered as a righteous, trustworthy and loving husband father, grandfather, and neighbor. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Roy, Bruce, Battle, and Carlton Hilton; and two sisters, Philsie Smith and Gertrude Hill. Mr. Hilton is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Irene Monzelle Tesh Hilton of the home; two daughters, Vicki H. Miller and husband Phillip of Lewisville and Susan Hilton of the home; two sons, Bobby C. Hilton and wife Donna and Steven R. Hilton and wife Kitty, all of Mocksville; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 pm Monday, November 8, 2010 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Darrell Cox officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lutheran Home, 5350 Old Walkertown Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
