Sally Gough Shaffer

Mrs. Sally Gough Shaffer passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2012 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC. She was born August 8, 1916 in Yadkin County to Robert Arvil and Phiza Williams Gough. Mrs. Shaffer enjoyed her flowers, oil painting, and most of all her writing and working on her family tree. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shaffer was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Columbus Shaffer; sisters, Maude New, Mabel Smith, and Ruth Gough; as well as a brother, Paul Gough. Surviving to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Phyllis Surface of Kenly, and Cherry Newsom and husband Kim of Advance; her son, Daniel Shaffer and wife Lou of Midway; nine grandchildren, Karen, Kevin, John, Allan, Amy, Scott, Phil, Paul, and Matt; seventeen great grandchildren; fourteen great, great grandchildren; as well as her sister, Mary Sue King of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 9, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Billy S. Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SECU Hospice House, 426 Hospital Road Smithfield, NC 27577.
