S. Lovely

S. Eugene Lovely, age 89, of Brevard, NC, passed away on April 27, 2022, after a period of declining health.  He was born in LaFollette, TN to G.H. and Mae Lovely.  After serving in the United States Navy and attending Berea College, ETSU, and UNC-Greensboro, he devoted his career to education.  He spent eight years as a teacher and principal in the Virginia Public School System and retired in 1996 after serving as a Professor of History for 26 years at Brevard College.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and took great pride in supporting the various interests and educational pursuits of his grandchildren.  He also enjoyed following the current political climate, the Carolina Panthers, and a good professional wrestling match.  He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings and by Louise Lovely, his former wife, friend, and mother of his children.  He is survived by his three daughters, Darlene Griffin (Dale), Linda Helms (Brent), and Carol Johnston; and three grandchildren, Ben Johnston, Larke Blanton (Jamie), and Claire Griffin.  He is also survived by his niece Emma McCarty (and family), nephew Thomas Hofstatter (Teresa), and dear friend, esteemed colleague, and morning coffee buddy Ray Fisher.  The family will hold a private graveside service at a later date.
