Ruth Ballew Wright

Ruth Ballew Wright, 79, of Durham, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 27, 2015, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Ruth was born April 19, 1935 in Valleytown, NC, to Bertha and Fred Ballew. She married Leon Wright in 1956, and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Ruth's interests included gardening, fishing, and reading, and she loved spending time with her family. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her daughter, Leigh Ann and her mother until she passed away at age 84. Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Leigh Ann, and three brothers, William Ballew, Ralph Ballew, and Fred Ballew, Jr.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Leon T. Wright; daughters, Diana Reed and husband Bruce, Nancy Gilley, and Cindy Winslow; grandchildren, Justin Reed, Brittany Reed, Joshua Winslow, and Alexander Winslow; great-grandchildren, Raleigh, Reagan, Pierce, and Eva Lynn; and sister, Bernice Hart and husband Larry Hart.

A celebration of Ruth's life will be held Friday, April 3, 2015 at 2 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
