Our mom, grandmother and great grandmother, Ruth Evelyn Pulliam Vestal passed peacefully from her suffering of COPD and other issues, on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was a dear, sweet and reverent woman who loved her family so much. Her smile and wit will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She was born to Opal Davis and Harvey Pulliam on August 4, 1927. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmo M. Vestal and step-father L. T. Davis. She was a member of King Baptist Mission in King, NC. She loved her family dearly. She loved music and singing. She was instrumental in recording 3 CDs of her grandfather, Luther Pulliams' collection of, ""Songs of the Saved"" and was very proud of that. She played piano for her church and sang in quartets and groups, and loved it. She was previously employed by USAir in Reservations. Surviving are her children: Danny Vestal, Janice Wright (fiancé Alan Moore), Denise Griffin (Don); Cindy Tierney (Jeff); grandchildren: Todd Vestal (Christa), Tonya Bates; Zach Manning (Jessica), Josh Manning (Lianne); Hannah Tierney (Ernesto Santos, fiance), Emily, Laura, Katie Tierney; Faith Griffin (special friend, Randy Bagley), Jacob Griffin(Hillary), Jon Griffin(Theresa); Donna (Davis)Barnett; Susan Lester (Mike); great grandchildren: Gretchen and Bryson Vestal (Todd/Christa); Eli Manning (Josh/Lianne), Ella, Lilly, Zoey Manning (Zach/Jessica); Edward Santos, Julian Santos (Hannah/Ernesto); Lane Griffin (Jacob/Hillary), Julian Lackey and Laila, (Faith/Randy), Morgan and Marissa Bagley(Jon/Theresa); Jonathan and Michelle Lester (Mike/Susan); half siblings: Harvey Pulliam Jr (Millie), Betty Jo Lyons (Roger), Doris Marion (Arthur), Gary Pulliam (Jannette), Tony Pulliam (Donna), Ricky Pulliam, Betty Pulliam (step-mother); step siblings: Elizabeth Weavil, Louise Davis; special friends, Idalia, Juan, Brandon, Brenda Velazquez, Suzy Spangenberg, Loretta Bowen, Gwen and James McLaughlin.. Our family would like to extend our appreciation to Hospice for sending their ""angels"" in to our rescue when we needed ""angels"" the most; special thanks to Tina and Jen. There are too many of these to mention but we love you all. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9th at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8pm.
