Mrs. Ruth Reavis Vestal, 86, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born November 19, 1924 in Yadkin County to Benjamin Franklin and Nora Hampton Reavis. Ruth loved growing flowers, especially roses and had a fondness for cooking and was well known for her Moravian ginger cookies. She was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by a sister, Jospehine Wilkins and by two brothers Lawrence and Nelson Reavis. Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Gurney Paul Vestal; a daughter, Paulette Vestal Brewer and husband, Robert E. Brewer; a special grandson, Robert Jason Brewer; and two sisters, Sylvia Hudson and Lacy Ebert. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Perkins officiating. A private graveside service will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 6:30- 8:00 pm Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, W-S, N.C. 27103. The family would like to thank the staff of the Kate B.
