Ruth McCraw Payne

RURAL HALL Mrs. Ruth McCraw Payne, 88, passed away Wednesday morning, February 29, 2012 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Carroll Co., VA on March 28, 1923 the daughter of the late John Henry Booker McCraw and Callie Virginia Stoneman McCraw. Mrs. Payne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family deeply. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Beauford Lee Payne, a granddaughter, Dawn Gordon, a son-in-law, Fred Gordon, 3 sisters, Irene Thomas, Hattie Newman and Mattie Brim and two brothers, Hampton McCraw and Henry McCraw. Mrs. Payne is survived by three daughters, Shirley P. Gordon, Barbara P. Jessup and husband Tom, and Rhonda P. Lackey and husband Tommy all of Rural Hall, a son, Edward Lee Payne and wife Brenda of Stuart, VA, eight grandchildren,9 great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Tommy Brim of Mt. Airy and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Payne will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Jerry Simpkins, Minister and Brent Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in McCraw Family Cemetery in Lambsburg, VA at 1:00 p.m. following the service in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening, Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: .
