Ruth Pruitt Parks

Ruth P. Parks, 92, of Winston-Salem (formerly of Hamptonville, NC) died on October 29, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Ruth was a devoted wife of 60 years to her husband, Carl, and was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved God and worked alongside her husband in his ministry. She worked at Hanes Hosiery in her early years. She received her nursing degree later in life and used it to help so many people in her community. She lived a life of service for God. Alzheimer's disease never took away her memory of Jesus. She loved and would always respond to her favorite hymns that were played for her until the end. We know heaven has welcomed a very special angel. We love you Mama and will miss you always. You are forever in our hearts. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Bessie Pruitt; husband, Reverend Carl E. Parks; a daughter, Shirley Restivo; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Bowles Parks; 2 brothers, Roy and Tom Pruitt; and 2 sisters, Irene Little and Ruby Adams. Survivors include 3 children, Carl Parks, Jr. of Pfafftown, Carol Alford (Ronald) of Winston-Salem, Priscilla James (Bill) of Bradenton, FL; 8 grandchildren, Tony Alford, Rodney Alford, Bridget Hutchins, Christopher Parks, Andrew Parks, Lisa Gillespie, Mike Holbrook, and Mark Holbrook, and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Pete Elliot, Rosie Vestal, Betty Reavis; and 2 brothers, Gene and Leon Pruitt. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Ed Sears officiating. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Liberty Hospice, 1007 Lexington Ave., Thomasville, NC 27360.
