Ruth Evelyn Hughes McDowell

Mrs. Ruth McDowell, 92, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 25, 2024. She was born February 27, 1932, in Caswell County to the late Charlie Hughes and Jennie Ann Frye Hughes. Ruth was a long-time member of Woodland Baptist Church. She was the first recipient of 50 years of perfect attendance. She was given a pin for each year of attendance. Ruth was a teacher of the 2-year-old class for many years, while helping Darlin on his bus route. She kept children in her home for 21 years, that she influenced with her love and care. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Elmer “Darlin” McDowell, and nine brothers and two sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Ann Daughtry (Wade), and Renee Wilkins (Keith); three grandchildren, Jacob Daughtry (Jennifer), Courtney Lennen (Chad), and Travis Wilkins; three great-grandchildren, Parker Lennen, Reece Lennen, Eleanor Daughtry, and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 11am Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Woodland Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Gammons, Rev. Vic Pyles, and Don Walker officiating. Interment will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm Monday, October 28, 2024, at Woodland Baptist Church.
