Ruth Virginia Knight Grubbs

Ruth Virginia Knight Grubbs, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 10, 2016, after an extended illness. She is finally with her high school sweetheart and the great love of her life, her husband, Burt. She grieved for him for many years after his home going in 1995. Ruth was born July 29, 1933, to the late Johnny and Prudie James Knight. She retired from the Sara Lee Corporation with over 40 years of service. She then worked in the cafeteria at Gospel Light Christian School for over 10 years until she became too ill to continue. She loved the children at GLCS and loved to serve them. Ruth loved her family, her church and her work. She especially loved baking those wonderful desserts she always provided on Sundays for her family. Ruth was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church for over 50 years and served as Church Sunday School Secretary for approximately 10 years.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Burt Grubbs; her son, Michael Brent Grubbs; two brothers, JB Knight and Joe Knight; two sisters, Margie New and Nancy Knight.
Surviving are her daughter, Joyce Sides (Jimmy); grandchildren, Derek Sides (Kristy), Diane Hull (Matt), Nina Grubbs; great grandchildren, Jamie and Isabella Tilley, Hailey, Tyler and Hannah Hull, and Liza and Tori Sides; sisters, Peggy McGee and Joann Knight; and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Roberson and Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Donations may be made in her honor to Gospel Light Baptist Church or Gospel Light Christian School, 890 Walkertown Guthrie Rd, Winston Salem, NC 27101. Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
