Ruth Lambeth Calkins

Ruth Calkins, age 94 of Winston Salem, NC, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Priddy Manor Assisted Living in King, NC. Ruth was born on January 31, 1929, in Forsyth Country to Edward Mitchell & Berta Mae Lambeth. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Richard Orr Calkins, her brothers Earl and Wayne Lambeth, nieces Marie Sizemore and Pam Lambeth, and a special Aunt Rachel James. Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Dallas Lambeth, her nieces, and nephews: Max Lambeth, Jerry Lambeth, Patricia Riddle, John Wayne Lambeth, Donna Scott, Tamara Cecil, Keith Lambeth, and Danny Lambeth. She is also survived by numerous generations of great-nieces and nephews. After retiring from Western Electric, Ruth and her husband Richard, traveled the world making memories together. Often including their nieces and nephews of all generations. She was adored and loved by all who knew and met her. She was a devoted wife, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend. She was known for her giving nature and quick-witted humor that was always sure to bring a smile to your face. Ruth was a devoted Christian whose strong faith in the Lord guided her throughout life. She had a love for music and enjoyed singing with a quartet called The Maids of Melody. The family would like to thank all the staff at Priddy Manor Assisted Living for the love and care over the last 4 years.  The family would also like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice for the kind and compassionate care over the last ten months. We would also like to recognize her roommate, Donna Tedder, for being a devoted friend to Ruth and her family. The family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, August 15^th, 2023 from 7pm to 9pm at Hayworth Miller in Rural Hall, NC. The family will hold a private graveside service, officiated by Pastor Jim Miller.
