Ruth Jean Brandquist, 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away after a brief illness on 9 July 2024.
Ruth was born on 24 February 1934 in Venice, Ohio to John and Ellen Leidorf. She graduated from Margaretta Township High School. She married Robert Carl Brandquist on 29 August 1959 in Venice, Ohio. Ruth was always active in church and school activities her entire life. She taught Sunday School in her youth. She held offices in her Women’s Fellowship as well as offices in Concerned People for Exceptional Children. Her greatest joys in life were taking care of her family, cooking and baking, as well as being a talented oil paint artist.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Curtis Leidorf, and her husband Robert of 60 years.
Ruth is survived by her sons, Roland of the home, and Richard (Lisa) of Kernersville, and her daughter, Robin (George) Richardson of Bartonville, Illinois. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Dustin Brandquist, Brittany Bennett (Jim), and Kaylee Richardson; and a brother, Paul Leidorf (Yvonne) of Port Clinton, OH. Ruth is also survived by three step grandchildren, , Robert Blake Hunt, Brandi Hopkins, and Brandon Padfield. She is also survived by three step great grandchildren, Aiden Hopkins, Ailana Hopkins, and Arabella Hopkins. She is also survived by her loving and loyal poodle, Annie Louise.
A visitation will be held on July 13, 2024, from 5:00PM - 7:00PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A private family graveside service will take place on July 16, 2024, in the Margaretta Township Cemetery in Venice, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Messiah Moravian Church, 1401 N Peace Haven Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27104, or The Enrichment Center of Winston-Salem, 1006 Marshall St SW, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
