SPENCER- of Eagle Rock, VA Russell V. Spencer went to be with his glorious Savior on April 8, 2013. Mr. Spencer was born in Ashe County, NC on August 12, 1924 to the late Zola M. and Winton M. Spencer. Mr. Spencer was a retired letter carrier, retiring from Waughton Station Post Office in 1979. He also served as a letter carrier in Dunedin, FL where he began his career. He leaves behind to grieve his wife of 65 years, Sophia Jane Spencer, daughter Brenda and spouse, James Thomas of Winston-Salem, daughter, Sandra Kay and spouse, Robert Johnson of Walnut Cove and a son, Winton and spouse Nancy Spencer of Eagle Rock, VA, 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was a faithful servant to our Lord, serving as a deacon and S.S. Teacher in many churches in Florida and North Carolina. He served in the U.S. Army in Japan in 1946 and 1947. Mr. Spencer was an exceptional man, always helping those in need. He was greatly loved by all who knew him and will be missed very much until we can all be reunited in Heaven. His favorite Bible verse was ""For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul.' Services will be held at Freeman Street Baptist Church in Winston-Salem on Saturday, April 13th at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Whitaker and Rev. Paul Doby officiating.
