Rufus John Follette, Sr.

Rufus John (RJ) Follette of Clemmons NC passed away to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 27 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born June 24, 1929 to Clarence Clark and Lucy Horton Follette in Mooresville NC. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Virginia Oliphant Follette. They were married for 65 wonderful years. He is also survived by his son John Follette and wife Nancy of Bermuda Run NC, his daughter Judy Follette and her fiancé Jerry Smith, also of Bermuda Run, and his sister, Rose Foust of Morganton NC. He is preceded in death by brothers Henry Follette and Charles (Babe) Follette, and sister Christine Bowman. Rufus served in the US Navy during the Korean War on the destroyer USS Moale and enjoyed reminiscing about his time serving our country. He started his career as a salesman for Campbell Soup Company and then left to become a principle partner with JA Richardson Food Brokerage in Winston-Salem NC. He was a member of Clemmons United Methodist Church. He enjoyed volunteering at Old Salem, golfing with his buddies, and traveling with Virginia in both the US and abroad. He liked visiting historical sites and museums and any place where he could learn something new. He also enjoyed sitting on a beach or in his favorite chair or swing reading a good book, or just enjoying the outdoors. The celebration of his life will be held at 2p Monday, August 1 at Clemmons United Methodist Church with Dr. Matthew Burton and the Reverend Paula Northrup officiating. Visitation with friends and family will take place immediately following the service at the church. Memorials may be sent to the Kate B.
