Ruby "Tex" P. Horton

Mrs. Ruby “Tex” P. Horton passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 31, 2021. She was 87 years young. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Owen T. Horton, Sr. Known as Tex and Aunt Shing to countless friends and family, and Nana Tex to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was loved by many and lived a truly amazing life. She was born and raised in Texas and a veteran having served in the Women’s Army Corps in Germany where she met her husband. She and Owen loved to travel, especially to New Orleans, Harpers Ferry and to see her loved ones in Texas. She was a dedicated worker and served as a dental office manager and a leader at Weight Watchers International for many years, a role she was particularly proud of. She is survived by two children, Deboranell Smith of Winston-Salem and Owen Troy Horton, Jr. and wife, Cathy of Raleigh; one sister-in-law, Priscilla Horton of Mt. Airy; four grandchildren, Hannah Bower and husband, Mike, Adam Smith and wife, Rachael, Cyrus Horton and wife, Kristina, and Katy Parker and husband, Dave; five great-grandchildren, Isabelle Bower, Brady and Barrett Smith, and Amelia and Luna Parker; and a long list of loving nieces and nephews in North Carolina and Texas. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.
