Mrs. Ruby Ethel Zimmerman Spivey, 97, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016.
Ruby was born February 7, 1919 in Forsyth County to Fred Zimmerman and Mary Elizabeth Clodfelter Zimmerman. She retired from Bahnson, Inc. after 40 years of service and also worked for more than 40 years as a scheduler for Spivey's Septic Tanks. A devout Christian and prayer warrior, she was a lifetime member of Immanuel New Eden Moravian Church. Ruby will be fondly remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, who would do anything for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Marcellus Spivey, Sr., sons, Jerry Wayne Spivey, Sr. and Grady Marcellus Spivey, Jr., grandchild, Michael Jason Spivey, 1 brother and 3 sisters.
Ruby is survived by her children, Shirley Nifong and Terry Blaine Spivey, Sr.; grandchildren, Rhonda Holifield, Joseph Floyd, Jr., Jerry Wayne Spivey, Jr., Tamara Spivey, Natasha Littlejohn, Tony Spivey, Dawn McDonough, Monique Sellers, James Bailey, Scott Bailey, Mecheele Harper, Terry Blaine Spivey, Jr., Greg Spivey, Grant Spivey, and Lynn Spivey Gealy; 20 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Lois Collins, Kate Funk, and Violet Everhart.
A celebration of Ruby's life will be held Friday, July 29, 2016 at 11 am at Immanuel New Eden Moravian Church with Rev. Cheryl G. Cottingham officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 5 - 7 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
