Mrs. Ruby O'Neil Jester Southern, 75, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born January 17, 1934 in Yadkin County to the late John Colombus Jester and Adeline Taylor Barr. Mrs. Southern loved her church and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church for over 30 years. Earlier in life she had worked at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, but has been a homemaker for the last several years. She was an avid bowler as long as her health permitted, loved writing poetry and loved vacations at the beach. Mrs. Southern also loved baseball and got to see her Yankees win the World Series this fall. She is survived by her husband, Clyde Ward ""South"" Southern Sr. of the home, a daughter, Cindy Southern Flinchum and husband Gray of Clemmons, two sons, Clyde W. ""Bubba"" Southern Jr. and wife Kathy of Advance and Jon Southern of Rural Hall, two grandchildren, Macy Lee Flinchum of Clemmons and Erica Lynn Lineberry and husband Stephen of Raleigh, two sisters, Texie Lumley of Winston-Salem and Tonja Wilder of Ocala, FL, one brother, Lindsay Barr and wife Jan of Myrtle Beach and a special cousin, Betty Sumner. Funeral service for Mrs. Southern will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2009 at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Winston-Salem with Pastor David Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until time for the service at the church. The family would like to send a special thanks to all of the staff a Forsyth Medical Center and all of her caregivers for the loving care that was shown in her time of need.
