KERNERSVILLE-Mrs. Ruby Hodges Smith, 74, devoted her life to being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and granny, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born June 20, 1936 in Guilford Co. to the late Raymond and Eva Childress Hodges. Ruby was employed with AT&T and retired after 35 years of service. After she retired from AT&T, she worked for Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and then retired after several years of service. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister. Surviving are her husband, Ronald Lander Smith of the home; three daughters, Teresa Jones and husband, Rodney of WV, Vickie Slaydon and husband, Ched Neal of Winston Salem, Sandy Derrah and husband, Eddie of Kernersville; two grandchildren, Kristan Rimer, Kim Boggs; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Brooklynn Tindall; seven sisters, and two brothers. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2010 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with Chaplain Doug Evans, and Rev. Jonathan Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in Bunker Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010 at the funeral home.
